The science of fingerprint classification is a unique language, requiring specialized skills to identify and classify fingerprint impressions. The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science is proud to offer a 5 day fingerprint classification course that will prepare the student for advanced fingerprint and palm print identification courses. This course is intended for those students who have limited or no experience or formal training in fingerprint identification and classification techniques.
Through practical exercises, quizzes and a final written exam, this forty-hour, five-day course will provide the student with the knowledge, skills and ability to recognize, classify and identify fingerprint patterns.

Course Objectives
Identify & classify the three basic patterns Identify & classify the sub-groups of these patterns Ridging counting Whorl tracing Recognize fingerprint characteristics Henry/NCIC/ IAFIS Classification System Compare inked ten fingerprints Develop a fingerprint filing system
The course will prepare the student to take the IAI Ten-Print Certification Test
This course has been approved by the Police Officers Standard Council; credit hours for law enforcement personnel from Delaware, Maryland & Connecticut can be received.
Registration is limited to 20 students. This course includes intense class work and students should expect some independent work which will be reviewed in class.

DAY ONE: • Inked finger impressions and electronic live scan fingerprint images • Services of the FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Division • Ridge details and fingerprint minutiae • Loop Fingerprint Patterns
DAY TWO: • Arch fingerprint patterns • Whorl fingerprint patterns • Practical classification exercises
DAY THREE: • Scarred, mutilated, partial and complete amputated fingers • The Henry Classification System as a Fingerprint Filing System • National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Fingerprint Classification System
DAY FOUR: • Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) • Exercises in classifying and comparing fingerprints
DAY FIVE: • AFIS demonstration and hands on use of AFIS • Live Scan
