Crime Scene Investigation II

Proper Crime scene investigation and reconstruction is important to the police, prosecution, the defense, and the public. This crime scene II course is being taught by the staff of Dr. Henry C. Lee at the Institute. This course is specifically designed for experienced crime scene investigators and their supervisors.

This course will provide more complex knowledge of theory and techniques in crime scene investigation. The student will gain experience applying more complex and sequential techniques for the recognition, documentation and processing of evidence.

Topics include:

  • Understanding and application of the theory and techniques of the alternative light source in various filter combinations
  • Evaluating scenes of major crimes and mass disasters for evidence recognition and collection
  • Searching crime scenes for significant evidence using screening and presumptive tests
  • Applying sequential testing and enhancement techniques for latent print development
  • Identifying and collecting trace evidence for instrumental evaluation
  • Understanding the various causes and effects of arson, explosives, and other scene patterns
  • Evaluating procedures according to National quality control guidelines
  • Understanding and practicing the use of high technology equipment in the field
  • Laboratory and Field Exercises
