Computer crime and digital evidence are becoming more important to investigations each day. The cases involve criminal, civil litigation, and security matters. Any crime scene today may involve computers used by the victim, the suspect, or they are housed in a home or business. Key information to solve a crime or recover a kidnapped or missing person often is on the computer hard drive. Qualified and knowledgeable investigative personnel are needed to recover this timely information.
Cell phone analysis as digital evidence will also be covered.
The Computer Forensics course is a one week course, open to all interested parties in the criminal justice and security fields. The course is a basic course, comprised of classroom lecture and a laboratory. The tuition for the week is $695.00. The current course dates are February 6-10, 2012 at the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science. There are ample seats available.
The training modules include:
1. Introduction to cyber - crime: crimes committed against a computer and crimes committed with a computer 2. Computer basics: hardware and software basics 3. Imaging and hashing: preservation of digital evidence, hashing algorithms 4. Media basics: disks, slack space, and storage – drives, CD, DVD, Flash 5. Digital Evidence Basics: what happens when a file is deleted, what is digital evidence 6. Case review practical exercises: use of FTK, EnCase, email and data recovery
