The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, affiliated with the University of
New Haven, opened in the fall of 1998. Dr. Henry C Lee, the Institute's founder,
has been a member of the UNH faculty since 1975. His internationally renowned reputation
as one of the world's leading forensic scientists, coupled with the University of
New Haven's 25 year history as one of the foremost academic forensic programs in
the country was the catalyst for the creation of this project. These strengths imbue
the Institute with a solid core of competency and expertise in the field of public
safety and forensic science.
The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science marks the State of Connecticut as
a world leader in the arena of public safety and forensic science. The Institute
specializes in interdisciplinary research, training, testing, consulting and education
in forensic science.

Description of Programs
The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, links scholars, students, forensic
scientists, the legal community and professional practitioners in many fields in
addressing the scientific and social issues confronting forensic science and the
criminal justice system throughout the world. Through training, consultation, research
and a unique public learning center, the Institute's goal is to make the criminal
justice system more effective. This is achieved through more accurate and cost effective
crime scene investigations and better crime prevention measures. See our current programs.

The Training Center provides advanced postgraduate training, workshops and symposiums for law enforcement officers, forensic scientists, lawyers and judges, physicians and dentists, and educators, the legal community and the general public in all areas of forensic science and criminal justice. One of the highlights of the training program is the Arnold Markle Symposium held each year in honor of the late State's Attorney Arnold Markle who was a dedicated advocate for law enforcement education.

The Institute's panel of fellows provides expert case consultation to law
enforcement agencies and attorneys on a wide variety of scientific questions and
legal issues presented in the forensic real world.
The activities of the Research Laboratories
include crime scene investigation, human biometric identification, DNA and other
biological evidence, teleforensic communications and cybercrime detection.
A Public Learning Center, one of the first of its kind in the world, draws it's
visitors into a world of intrigue and discovery of famous forensic cases. It is
also a one-of-a kind unique repository of forensic evidentiary artifacts and documentation
